With lots of kids now getting their news from social media – where disinformation and content created by artificial intelligence run rampant – 18 states have some form of K-12 media literacy education on the books, according to Media Literacy Now. Of those, four – Delaware, Texas, New Jersey and, starting this year, California – mandate media literacy, with lesson standards now being crafted state by state. “But we haven’t really taught people how to use them ethically, efficiently and responsibly.”To do that, a media literacy lesson might include analyzing which emotions the wording of a mass media headline evoke. And California starting this year requires media literacy instruction to be integrated into K-12 mathematics, science and history-social science curriculums when they’re revised, according to the bill. It’s why Manganello has spent nearly two decades perfecting how she teaches media literacy.

A 0.25 mg injection pen of Novo Nordisk's weight-loss drug Wegovy is shown in this photo illustration in Oslo, Norway, September 1, 2023. To be sure, the full results presented on Saturday at a major medical meeting gave analysts even more confidence in the heart protective benefits of the hugely popular drug. That lifted shares of Penumbra (PEN.N), which makes devices used in surgeries for stroke patients, 13% in morning trading. Its shares have tumbled about 28% as of last close since Novo in August said Wegovy had also shown a clear cardiovascular benefit. "The full detailed results ... do not shift our outlook that MedTech device stocks appear broadly oversold," said Leerink analyst Mike Kratky.

There's big upside in shares of Cooper Companies , a company known for manufacturing contact lenses, according to Baird. "While we expect COO to miss FQ4 and guide FY'23 EPS below Street, we've been encouraged by recent still-healthy contact lens end-market checks and expectations pricing tailwinds could grow for CVI next year," Johnson wrote in a Wednesday note. The analyst's $370 price target, raised from $345, represents roughly 20% upside from Tuesday's closing price of $307.44. However, the analyst said that his checks into contact lens end markets have improved in recent months. What's more, he expects that price increases for contact lenses that proved to be sticky this year, will continue in 2023.
